Hi,
Fiji and Cricket are not often put together in the same sentence, but after spending two weeks touring Fiji with the Hutt Valley High School First XI cricket team, 'Fiji' and 'cricket' will forever go together. For the team, choosing to tour Fiji was more than about playing cricket. It was about creating opportunities to rub shoulders with people with fewer opportunities, to serve young people from a variety of high schools and communities. It is funny how life works. You get a greater sense of achievement and self-significance from choosing to 'give' than to 'receive'. The thing most mums say at Christmas time! Not only did this experience build and develop character in us as individuals, it also moulded together our team and we now look forward to playing together in the Wellington Secondary schools competition with some newly found team values and goals.
On returning one of the players parents wrote to me. "After a week of our son sharing experiences, reflections, stories about Fiji and the tour we just wanted to express our gratitude and thanks to all of you......The trip itself by all accounts went extremely well and we certainly can see the positive impact it has had on our son".
This again reminds me that when we choose to 'give' and make a difference, we are in fact the ones who are challenged and changed.

REPORT - HVHS FIRST XI CRICKET TEAM TOUR FIJI
Ignite Sport, HVHS and some pretty committed parents worked together to organise what turned out to be a 'trip of a lifetime'. The team played two games of the three scheduled against the Fijian National Team as well as games against Suva, Western Fiji and Lautoka representative sides. We were pleased to come away with three good wins, one loss, with two games abandoned due to rain. Apart from playing some great cricket, a highlight was having the opportunity to visit and run coaching clinics for young people in various schools and communities and donating much needed cricket gear and sports equipment. Fijian young people are incredibly athletic and picked up basic skills quickly. They also have a unique ability to take life not too seriously, laugh at themselves and find pleasure in all they do. As a result each visit was very special and memorable. Having these and other opportunities to experience 'real' life in a different and often poorer culture will greatly impact all who went.

The team would like to thank all who have generously supported this trip and the part you have played in making it a reality.

IGNITION 08 - INDOOR SPORTS TOURNAMENT
Ignite Sport 'Ignition 08' featured 17 teams playing seven different sports. Over five hours of hard out, non-stop, adrenalin pumping indoor sports action. Teams were placed in two divisions with each team playing a mix of indoor sports which included netball, soccer, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, bowls and 8-ball (pool).
Teams received points for winning games and received additional bonus points for most goals/highest scores in the both their division and overall. Competition in this year's Division One was of a high standard with a slightly more competitive edge than last years tournament. Teams in Division Two enjoyed a more social environment but I must say were just as competitive. CONGRATULATIONS to the Upper Hutt Rugby Academy who are our 2008 Champions.
Pull a team together and keep tuned to our website for details about next year's tournament.

CSN CONFERENCE
Ignite Sport is affiliated with Christian Sports Network NZ (CSN). At the end of this month is an awesome opportunity to attend the CSN Conference (31st October-2nd November). The conference will focus on bring 'sport' and 'mission' together. Sport hasn't really been used to its fullest potential, considering New Zealand is the second highest sport participating nation in the world. This fact alone says a lot about how effective sport can be used to make a difference. This conference will be very beneficial in assisting those who have an interest in sport. Whether it be a person who is a fan of sport, right through to an elite athlete engaged in sport. This conference is for all! For further information visit www.csn.org.nz . Ignite Sport Wellington is very keen to take a van load to the conference. If you are interested in attending the conference please contact Kevin Goldsbury Ph 9202204 or email .

Currently we totally rely on grants and donations to pay our bills. In the month of November we plan to launch an appeal inviting those who believe in what we do to consider making a donation. We will be in contact with you again regarding this opportunity in November.
