Hi,
Welcome to our first ever bi-monthly Ignite Sport E-Newslink.
Many of you have connected with Ignite Sport in the past; some as volunteers, others as supporters, or maybe as an academy athlete or coach. The 'Ignite Sport Network' is alive and well. Now that Ignite Sport is its own Charitable Trust, we are looking to develop further opportunities to connect with and support our local sporting community and positively influence New Zealand sporting culture.
We would like to keep you regularly informed of Ignite Sport projects, activities and developments. We will also feature stories from the coal-face of athletes, teams and coaches. As the Ignite Sport Network grows, so will the opportunity to make a significant difference, not only in the lives of New Zealand young people, but also families, schools and communities.
At Ignite Sport we often refer to this saying - "thoughts become actions; actions become habits; habits become character; character becomes destiny". For young people in our own community, involvement in sport and recreation will positively shape their lives, open new doors and create new opportunities. For some, it will be the very activity that gives them a sense of meaning, purpose and self-respect. To quote Tony Blair: "Investment in sport is not just a sports policy. It's a health policy, an education policy, an anti-crime policy and an anti-drugs policy".
Ignite Sport is committed to making a difference and the development of an effective network of interested people and supporters will help us to achieve our goals. We would like to invite you to be part of the journey.
Please feel free to forward this E-Newslink to anyone you think may be interested in connecting with Ignite Sport and they too will have opportunity to subscribe. At anytime you wish to unsubscribe you can easily do so by pressing the link below.

IGNITE SPORT TRUST
As you are probably aware, Ignite Sport moved out from under the umbrella of Youth For Christ (YFC) in 2006 and recently incorporated (June 2007) as a separate Trust. We have also recently registered with the Charities Commission and hope to receive shortly 'Tax Exemption' and 'Donee Status' from IRD. This will allow people making a donation to Ignite Sport to claim a tax rebate on those donations.
Ignite Sport is well served by a very experienced Leadership Team and Board of Trustees who have had wide experience and involvement in both business and community organisations.

IGNITION 07
Ignite Sport's 'IGNITION 07' Indoor Sports Tournament (Sunday August 26) featured 24 teams playing seven sports, over five hours of non-stop, adrenalin pumping sports action. Teams were placed in three divisions with each team playing a mix of indoor sports including netball, soccer, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, bowls and 10 pin.
Points were awarded for winning games with additional bonus points for most goals/highest scores in both their division and overall. Congratulations to HVHS PE Dept who took home the IGNITION CHAMPIONS CUP. Based on the success of this year's tournament, Ignite Sport will look to develop the 2008 Tournament further to include additional teams and a possible masters (35+) division?
'IGNITION 08' - Stay tuned to our website for dates and details or for further information contact Kevin Goldsbury at the Ignite Office 04 9202204.
ON TRACK 07 SPORTS ACADEMY
In December, Ignite Sport will be running a pilot sports academy programme at Hutt Valley High School. Fifty year 10 students will have opportunity to participate in this 3-4 day in school programme which aims to use the power of sport to engage, motivate and inspire young people. The programme is designed to support HVHS staff in identifying and supported selected students from PE classes whom have shown talent and help them realize and maximize their potential in sport, education and life. A major thrust of the programme will be around the concept of 'balance', encouraging athletes to consider issues of 'character' and 'heart' and not just skills and drills. We call this 'coaching the core'.
Students will also develop fundamental concepts around exercise and health, sports performance, lifestyle management and career development. The ON TRACK programme could potentially be offered to other schools in 2008.
"PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE CONTINUING!"
In May we received an email from an athlete who read on our website that Ignite Sport was not going to run an Academy Camp in 2007. Here is what she wrote:
"When will Ignite Sports be starting up again? I've gone to 3 or 4 of the academy camps and they've been the best experiences of my life!! Please tell me you're continuing?"
It is a real encouragement to us to receive emails or phone calls from past Ignite Sport Academy participants. Some are keen to simply continue contact while others offer to help out with future Ignite Sport events. We were pleased to be able to respond in this case and explain that we had put down the sports academy camp idea for 2007 in order to develop other new Ignite Sport initiatives. Responses like this inspire us to create more opportunities for more athletes to have the 'time of their lives'.
