  • ONTRACK SPORTS ACADEMY 08 :
Fifty selected year 10 PE students have just completed the 2008 Ontrack Sports Academy. The three day programme facilitated by Ignite Sport was developed in 2007 as part of Hutt Valley High Schools gifted and talented initiative, to help PE staff support students to maximize their full potential in sport, education and life.

The 2008 programme included presentations from Olympic heptathlete Rebecca Wardell, Para-Olympian silver medalist, Kate Horan and Naenae's Billy Graham. Practical workshops included career opportunities in sport and fitness testing with Weltec staff, sports specific coaching, sessions at Lifestyle health and fitness centre and an indoor sports tournament. Interactive learning sessions were facilitated by Ignite staff designed to develop character, teach goal setting and identify barriers to performance.

All students received their own detailed workbooks and each graduated with a certificate recognizing their efforts and achievements.

  • HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL FIRST XI CRICKET TEAM TO TOUR FIJI Kevin Goldsbury from Ignite Sport coaches this team and along with patrents and supporters, organsiation is well underway for HVHS's first sports trip to the Pacific Islands. The team leaves on Sept 20th for a two week tour.

The purpose of the trip is to provide opportunity for our senior players to experience life in another culture and to make a difference in the lives of other young people who often have less opportunities than ourselves. In the boys own words "to inspire the people of Fiji".

To achieve this the team will spend several days visiting and running coaching clinics in Fijian schools and communities and assisting Cricket Fiji in promoting cricket. We will also leave bags of donated cricket gear at each school we visit. It is this 'service' aspect of the trip that has captured and excited the school community, players and parents.

While in Fiji we the team will also play several one-day games against representative sides including three matches against the Fijian National Squad before they head off the their ICC World Cup qualifying tournament in Tanzania. It will be a great priviledge to play the Fijian team and this in itself has generated intense interest.

If you would like to asist us you could:
    1. Make a donation to help cover trip costs.
    2. Donate 'good used' cricket gear that we can leave with schools.
    3. Attend our fundraising Breakfast at the Petone Workingmans club on Wed August 20th. Tables or individual seats can be booked through Kevin at Ignite Sport - Ph 9202204 OR contact Kevin

  • Successful first ONTRACK sports academy.
Our very first Ignite Sport ONTRACK Sports Academy was held at Hutt Valley High School from Dec 12th - 14th. Fifty Year 10 PE students were selected to participate on the three day academy which also included a practice session with several Phoenix players and attending the Phoenix soccer match against Queensland Roar at the Westpac Stadium.
The ONTRACK academy aimed to use the power of sport to engage, motivate and inspire young NZ young people to reach their full God-given potential both as athletes and as people. The programme was specifically designed to support school staff in identifying and supporting selected PE students who have shown talent and help them to realize and maximize their full potential in sport, education and life.
The practical component of the academy featured sport specific coaching and skill development, fitness testing, stretching and flexibility and gym fitness. Finding balance was the main thrust of the input sessions which covered issues such as personal discipline, goal setting, intro to sports science and coaching the core.
A follow-up out of school programme will be offered to students in 2008 so they can continue to develop both their athletic ability and further explore issues of leadership, character and heart.
